All’s Well That Ends Well!

Hej Hej! which actually translates into goodbye in Danish and right now, it is the hardest thing for me to do. I get emotionally attached very soon, and my time here in Copenhagen has been so incredible that I am feeling quite blue now that the time to leave is inching closer.

Thanks to DIS, I have been exposed to some of the masterpieces of architecture and those spaces will keep inspiring me in the future. I have been blessed to have had illustrious faculty, and have learned so much from them. And lastly, I have been lucky that I got a chance to spend my summer here at DIS Copenhagen!
Spoilt for choice!
There are millions of thoughts running through my mind right now, and I’m just trying to make them coherent. There are so many things that I will miss doing. I will miss looking at the daylight outside my window at 11 in the night and feeling like I have more than 24 hours to live everyday. I will miss commuting to DIS in the 5C bus and the short walk after. I will probably never see so many people bicycling happily together like I do in Copenhagen. I will miss getting lost in the streets and the smells of coffee and bakery products coming from the quaint cafes, and the yummy ice cream. I will miss having the independence to wake up every morning and experience something new every day.
But most of all, I will miss the new friends I made here. The friends who laughed with me, cried with me, consoled me when I felt homesick, encouraged me when I felt like I was going to fail, cooked with me, cooked for me, shared a little part of their lives with me…basically my little Copenhagen family. I hope to stay in touch with all these wonderful people.
Smiles all around!
In spite of all this, the biggest lesson that I learned was about priorities. There were times when my friends went out to have some fun, and I didn’t because I chose to put my academics first. Such decisions are tough to make but extremely consequential in the long run. Today at the end of the semester, I feel content, my heart is happy, and that’s all that matters. No matter how much I try, I will end up missing out on some things, but what’s important is that right now, I feel like I’m on cloud nine!
On cloud nine!
I leave from here and go back to Mumbai, India, but only for a short while. I leave for the US at the end of August to go to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) to continue my Masters in Adaptive Reuse. DIS was just the start of my journey, I still have a long way to go!
But as they say, a good beginning makes for a good ending…
Goodbye!
